04: Humility

In our current age of modernity, entertainment culture and social media have created a whirlwind of self-obsession. To say that we should have no understanding or even appreciation for the talents we have is indecorous and unrealistic. However, to say that we should elevate ourselves to the highest possible pedestal without a healthy consideration of our weaknesses is foolish and obtuse.

No man is going to be the best at anything in this life because as time goes on, humans learn newer and better ways to do that thing. What is possible, is that a man becomes the best at that thing that he, individually, is capable of.

One who is convinced that he is the best without examination of his downfalls is not, and never will be, the best he can become. Ironically, it is humility that makes a man honorable and capable of becoming the finest he can be. And how can we start exercising our humility today? Listening.

Assume without hesitation that there is something you can learn, even from the most unlikely source. There is wisdom in knowing when it is proper to keep quiet. A man will never speak well if he is unwilling to listen.
